Why We Should Walk By Faith And Not By Sight.

Lately, my soul has been telling me to revisit the scriptures. More accurately, to revisit the books of Moses in the Old Testament. It is interesting because my conscious mind wanted to read the book of Job. To consciously find inspiration in his story. But my spirit, on the other hand, felt that I should visit the books of Moses. That within those books, there are secrets that my spirit needs to discover.

You know, one has realised that the Bible does have many secrets. And a good secret is one that is hidden in plain sight. Like the slight hand of the magician, the secret is plain for all to see- if you know where to look. But that in itself is tricky because where do you look? Where do you start to look?

Well, another plain secret to knowing where to look is described in 2 Corinthians 5:7, which states that we live by faith and not by sight. It echoes what Christ said when He said that we should render to Caesar what’s Caesars and what is to God to God. So, for us to read the secrets that are hidden in plain sight, we need to approach the Bible with eyes of faith and not of human sight.

Being indebted and seeking help from the Lord while you added on your credit is not walking by faith. Seeking to lose weight yet praying to lose weight while having KFC for dinner every other day is not walking by faith. Living the Word through the interpretation of a pastor is not walking by faith.

Look, Christ walked the desert alone. Moses went up the mountain top by himself. Buddha sat under the tree alone. Yes, I understand the need and importance of a Teacher or Master to guide one’s journey. But, at the end of the day, it is your journey to walk.

Thus, the secrets that were made available to your pastor, might not be made available to you. It took me years but I understand why Dr. Alan Bagg never revealed the scripture that healed him of his ailment.  In the same way that after reading The Pilgrimage, Paulo Coelho does not reveal the secret of his sword. The reason is that every person is unique.

As much as we are biologically unique, so are we spiritually. Our purpose and what we have been created for are unique for us and for us alone. Even when we seemingly walk the same path, our purpose will craft one uniquely for you.

Think of it in this manner, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are regarded as the greatest basketball players of all time. But their greatness is uniquely different, even if it is in the context of basketball. The same can be said about Messi and CR7. The same can also be said about the Williams sisters in tennis. Indeed you find someone walking a similar path to yours but the truth of the matter is, there will come a time when you have to chart your path.

That path, you will see only with the eyes of faith. It is through these eyes the secrets that we seek from Scripture will be made visible.
