Two Sisters.

Writer's picture: Thando XabaThando Xaba

The Ranger lay still in his hammock. The warm beams of the two suns clouded by red and yellow leaves kissing him on the chest. It has been some time since he sat and allowed his mind to go free. In this moment he was faced with the one question that always haunted him. A question which at any moment of day would make him retreat to a corner or a book to seek for the answer. To this day, the answer continues to allude him.

This question gave him a sense of a purpose. Through this one question, he would journey to the great unknowns of the universe looking for an answer. But the deeper he went, the more complex the question becomes and the more unsolvable the question would seem. The Ranger understood a long time ago that he was a sucker to love. Everything he did was motivated by love. Earlier he undertook risky missions that caused many loses in his crew and many personal losses that ate away his own being. For love he fought monsters that breathed wild fire and spat toxic snort. But also for love, he committed great evils that the thought alone makes his eyes ready to burst with old bitter tears. In those years he gathered the understanding of the opposite of love. That even though love can be your one and only source of light, once it dims down and dies- the only light that burns is that of red eyes burning with revenge.

The Ranger somehow knew that it was love that kept him going. Even in those days when tormented by love, he would search deep within himself to root it out but he knew that it was love that gave him hope for a new day. But lately, he has taken a different look at love. The Ranger has been looking at love through the eyes of love’s sister- lust. Lately the Ranger no longer wanted to be a slave of love. He craved and desired the pleasure and charm of lust. Somehow, lust gave him a freedom far more greater than love. Love and lust shared the same DNA. He remembered when he landed on a planet far east of the Milky Way. On this planet he remembered seeing the King’s daughter. The daughter was beautiful. The Ranger remembers explicitly how he first had nothing but pure lust for her. Only when after he communicated with the King’s daughter and ventured within her womanly charm driven by lust, only then did he begin to love her. This thought stayed with him. Lust. To him it seemed that lust was the matchmaker between two souls. That it is lust that allows love to enter into the hearts of those two souls and cement them into one.

The question now began more complex and he was no where near solving it. The question that gave him life- also brought him Death.
