Rain dripped from the windowpane. His face danced with the streams of water that rolled down the window. His heart felt empty. His mind searched for meaning in the sounds of the rain. It is said that God is in the rain. At this moment, he was searching for Him.

For a long time, he was searching for a meaning in his masculinity. Like any young male, he thought he could find meaning in his manhood by pursuing women. A man is one who can successfully persuade a woman into his charm. He admired his friends who were natural with women. He however, found it difficult to replicate their lifestyle. He found no meaning in the weekend after weekend parties. He found no meaning in living on a shoestring budget to entertain females. He later realized that the females that his friends pursued, they were not the flavour for his tea.

His master taught him that every man has a woman for him. It is ignorance to fit women into a single box his master used to say. This made sense. He was a man of the universe. A student to seek the stillness and voice of God even in dead tree branches. A woman of the night would not understand him as much as he would not understand her. A woman who enjoyed the latest gossip of celebrities would not entertain him as much as conversations he had with God when hugging trees would not entertain her. This logic provided him with the basis to understand that all women are beautiful, he, however, had to find the beauty that graced his soul.

He found this to be harder than he thought. As he took the first steps alone into the world in search of a woman, he was overwhelmed. He understood early why his friends spent so much on alcohol and drugs. It isn’t easy to find a woman and seduce her. It requires a man to tap into a higher being of self in order to seduce a woman. Thus, he understood why most of his companions used these substances to elevate their confidence to court a woman. He decided to choose the straight and narrow.

One day, when he was going to the store to purchase food, he saw the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She was short, wearing a grey dress that was loose but because her body was full, the dress embraced her. The dress swirled and swerved as it wrapped her African body. She walked with the confidence of a Queen. He looked at her for so long, the plate of fries fell from his grasp. He knew this would be his ultimate test.

And it was. He waited for a month to conjure the spirits to approach her. Luckily for him, she went to the same college as he did. He saw her one afternoon after class. On that day, his heart skipped a beat. At that moment, he fell in love. His master once taught him that when the heart skips a beat, it seeks to find unison with the heart that rocked it off tune. At that moment, his heart was in tune with hers.

Countless nights he spent thinking about her. Countless nights he pictured her with her grey dress. Countless nights he lost himself in a world of love and lust. Until one night, the desire burnt so wildly that he decided that the every second he sees her again, he will approach her. Fate was listening to his conversation and so, the very next morning on campus, he saw her. A man of his word, he approached her.

The skies turned grey as he approached her. She saw him and the Queen that she is, she welcomed him with grace. She was a woman to be respected. His friends who intoxicated their minds to court women would fail with this woman. She was a woman who demanded the trueness of a man, in his sober state. She smiled at him. A smile that made him fall to his knees.

Indeed he fell, and she laughed. The sky turned darker. He looked embarrassed but this Queen of a woman helped him up. She laughed with him. She made the situation seem so natural that he felt his heart at ease. The clouds grew heavier and shortly, began to give their cries. They quickly ran for cover. He ran behind her. He fell again.

The second he got up, he saw his Queen going back to get his bag. He was mesmerized. he did not realise that his bag had fallen the first time. He felt even more embarrassed. She ran back to him. He looked in awe at the rain that worshipped her steps. She arrived with a huge exhalation of air. His bag was slightly wet but he did not mind. His bag smelt of her. He smiled. She smiled.

Later that evening, he arrived at his single-room that he rented. The rain had not stopped and continued to pour calmly but in great volumes. His heart was empty. He was ready to fill it with love that God Himself had ordained.
